Games
The aim of the game of Blackjack is to get your hand to total as close to 21 as you dare. Hit 21 and you win, go past 21 and you lose. Click hit, or stand, to take an extra card from the dealer, or show your hand as it is. The closet to 21 between you and the dealer, when you show your hand, wins the bet. An ace (11 or 1) and a face card (10) makes up a Blackjack.
There is, however, more to this game than first meets the eye – with side games and side bets to make matters as interesting as you like.
Split
If your first two cards have the same value (4’s, 5’s and 10’s excepted), then you can choose to split them into two separate hands by placing a second equal bet and drawing two additional cards.
Double
After receiving your first two cards, if you think a third card will beat the dealer’s hand, you can double your bet and receive one more card. This only applies when you hold a hand totalling 9, 10 or 11.
Insurance
If your dealer holds an ace in his initial hand, you can choose to insure your bet against him having a Blackjack. In this case, an amount equal to half your original bet is placed separately on the table. If the dealer does have Blackjack then you are paid 2 to 1 on your insurance, meaning that you receive your original bet back.
If however, the dealer doesn’t have Blackjack then you lose the insurance amount, whether you win or lose overall.
